For a long time I lived at a pace and tempo that were never mine. I stretched to fit a role I was handed, not the one I was meant to grow into. I was good at it, and it still was not enough. Every win at work left me hungry. I was full, and empty of myself at the same time.
It felt like breaking. Things I had always loved, especially writing, went quiet under the weight of everyone else’s expectations. I could not make sense of my own feelings, or why work I had done for years had started to feel unnatural.
Then one day I hit a wall. I could not answer another email or check another box. My body made me stop.
The woman I had been could not exist alongside the woman I was becoming.
What grew in the silence
I had to move into silence. And in the silence, I grew. I built a framework of my own. I wrote a book. I began writing fiction again. I discovered that I could make things happen when the work was truly mine.
This work was always in me
I have always been the one who listens, who sees what is possible, who helps someone find a new angle on her own life. As a girl I was the peer mentor and the matchmaker. As a woman I earned my coaching certifications and learned Reiki. For years I coached and held space for people for free, simply because I loved it and could not stay away. I just had to keep it small, and inside the lines.
